Day 25: Battle Gear - Sword of the Spirit
Today we continue our focus on this part of the Lord’s prayer:
“…but deliver us from the evil one.”
God is our defense and is the source of everything we need to be delivered from evil.
Warm Up:
Pray:
“Lord, deliver me from the evil one. A Roman soldier’s sword was his only offensive weapon. Your word is what I bring to the battlefield. When I am assaulted by the enemy’s attack I fight back like Jesus did—with Your word. Your word is revealed to me by the Holy Spirit in my heart. May I be a student of it and allow it to read me as much as I read it. My life is only a moment in time, but Your word endures forever.”
Round 1:
REPEAT FROM Day 20: Stand up and Read Ephesians 6:10-17 out loud.
Ephesians 6:10-17 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Round 2:
Stay Standing and pray these passages out loud:
Prayer from Hebrews 4:12 (Amplified)—“Your word is living and active and full of power—making it operative, energizing, and effective. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of my soul and spirit—the completeness of me, and of both joints and marrow—the deepest parts of my nature], exposing and judging my very thoughts and intentions of my heart.”
Prayer from 2 Timothy 2:15—“Lord, empower me to do my best to present myself to You as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
Round 3:
Read this passage slowly:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (Amplified)—All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
burn out:
level up by applying the word:
Work through the passage in Round 3. Write down how the word of God does the following in your life:
How God’s word instructs me:
How God’s word convicts me of sin:
How God’s word corrects errors in my life:
How God’s word trains me to live in conformity to God’s will publicly and privately:
How God’s word trains me to have personal integrity and moral courage:
How God’s word thoroughly equips me:
Which one of these do you want to pursue more?
bonus round:
Hide god’s word deep in your heart: memorize scripture:
PICK a Bible verse to memorize. Not sure which one you should pick? Check out this list to get your wheels turning.
Say the Bible verse OUT LOUD 20 times in a row. Don’t skip this step.
WRITE OUT the Bible verse 20 times. Pen and paper is much better than typing.
CHECK other versions of the Bible verse. Memorize the verse in the version of the Bible you typically read (NIV, ESV, NLT, etc.) but other translations might be easier to memorize without losing the meaning.
WRITE down 20 things you notice or learn from the verse. This can help you memorize the verse.
Write a PRAYER based on the Bible verse. This will help commit it to memory but is a break from directly memorizing it.
Memorize until you can EASILY say the verse without looking.
COMMIT to memorizing to get God’s word in your heart, not to prove how good you are at memorizing.
