Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.—Matthew 4:10-11

Warm-Up:

Read mark 15:1-15. highlight/underline/write out what stands out to you.

Round 1:

Write out the question “Who should be crucified?” in your journal. Under that write the names “barabBas” and Jesus.” Set a timer for 1 minute and think about what your answer would have been that day, surrounded by a crowd choosing jesus.

Round 2:

Set a timer for 1 minute and study this image. Write down what stands out to you:

"Give us Barabbas!", from The Bible and its Story Taught by One Thousand Picture Lessons, 1910

"Give us Barabbas!", from The Bible and its Story Taught by One Thousand Picture Lessons, 1910

Round 3:

write out this phrase from 2 timothy 2:13:

…if we are faithless, he remains faithful…

Round 4:

Pray:

“Lord, who knows what my response would have been on that fateful day? While the crowd was chanting “Release Barabbas!” would I have have kept silent? When they pointed toward You and chanted “Crucify him!” would I have joined in? Would I have called the innocent guilty? This surely would have secured my guilt in sending You to the cross. But honestly, I’ve done that anyway. I have chosen to free other things in my life rather than You. But that ends now. God, I give You free reign in my life. I want the freedom You promise to those who follow You in Galatians 5:1. Keep pushing me toward Easter and cultivate a longing for it deep in my heart. Not a longing to go back to my old ways, but a longing for my Savior, who is faithful even when I am faithless.”

Burn Out:

Share the good friday experience (below) with someone today.

good friday experience:

The Way of the Cross is a Spiritual experience for Good Friday written by my friend, Jon Klinepeter. This experience is designed to be done in any home setting and can be done in as little as 20 minutes, or could take a few hours, depending on how deeply you want to reflect and engage. It can also be an individual Spiritual experience for you to walk through alone, or an entire family can walk through it together. And, it’s quarantine friendly. All of the supplies should be handy around your home.

Below are links to PDF documents that will help you prepare and experience The Way of the Cross, as well as a few links to Spotify.

The Way of The Cross Soundtrack: This is a link to a Spotify playlist that has been created to be the background music for your experience. You can either play it in order or shuffle the playlist. Music can be helpful to set a tone and broaden the depth of the experience for you.  Enjoy!

The Way of The Cross Heartbeat: This is a link to a Spotify playlist that has a heartbeat sound, which will be used for one of the stations.
