16 / Saturday
But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” —Matthew 4:4
This is week 2 of Lent–our focus is humility through simplicity:
Warm-Up:
Pray:
“Lord, this week I’ve pursued humility through simplicity. While the world is being turned upside down, keep me focused on You. While the world flows in fear help me flow in faith. Teach me how to be sustained by Your word. Show me how to serve others with humility!
Round 1:
Read john 13:1-5:
Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
Round 2:
Set a timer for 2 minutes and make a list of 3 things you can get rid of (throw away, sell, give away, etc.)
Round 3:
Set a timer for another 2 minutes and make a list of 3 things you can stop doing (complaining, stressing, working long hours, etc.)
Burn Out:
Today’s simplicity challenge: quit your phone.
How distracting has your phone been this week? Texts, phone calls, social media, it all piles up. Challenge yourself to quit your phone today. Here’s some ideas:
See how long you can leave your phone on airplane mode.
Phone stack: get everyone to stack their phones in one place. First one to grab their phone buys or makes the next meal for everyone.
Leave your phone in another room while you are home.
Give your phone to a family member and have them hide it. (Also, make sure you agree when you can get it back!)
