Sacrifice is intentionally forsaking the security of relying on our own resources, beyond what seems reasonable, to remind us of our desperate need for Jesus.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. —Matthew 4:1-2

Lent is designed to be something like a wilderness experience. Will you shake up your life so that you reach for Jesus instead of leaning into your usual routines, comforts or habits?

Sacrifice is giving up something you love for something you love more. Sacrificing a comfort is one way to “shake up your life” and make room for God in your heart. It’s a way for you to enter the wilderness.

  • If you give up coffee, how will you rely on God to energize you?

  • If you give up Netflix, how can you maximize the extra time?

  • If you give up social media, how can you prioritize connecting with others in real life?

What will you sacrifice for 40 days? Write it in your journal. Post in the comments if you are willing.
